Easily Influenced?

I'm one of the millions of people who respect the genius of Kanye West's music, the brilliance of Beyonce's voice, and the all out grind of Lil Wayne. Unlike so many millions though, I leave all biases out of it when I listen to music. I'll be the first to tell you if Jay-Z puts out something mediocre, or if 50 Cent's cd is lukewarm at best. Nowadays tho, I feel like I'm in the minority.

I'm all about giving innovation a chance, but its like people don't wanna call a spade a spade anymore. Compare the passion you heard when Beyonce sang "Dangerously in Love" to how she sings "Single Ladies" and you'll understand where I'm coming from. Listen to College Dropout and follow it up with 808's & Heartbreaks and you won't even get the same vibe. It's like artists these days are trying so hard to do something out the box that they lose sight of how they connected with fans in the first place.

I like music that speaks to me as a listener, but I'm outweighed by a majority who let their loyalty to an artist overpower the fact that risque music isn't always good. It's like consumers are rating music based off prior relationships with the artist and not current relationships with the content. The problem is that artists have caught on to our "ride or die" fixation, and they start thinking that they're positioned so firmly in the game that people will buy their music regardless of what it sounds like. I'm sure that's a great feeling as an artist, but as a consumer that frame of mind leaves me empty.

I'd be a liar if I said Lil Wayne wasn't talented, but I'd also be lying if I said Tha Carter III lived up to the hype that surrounded it. I can say the same for Beyonce's current project, Usher's current project, Kanye's upcoming project, 50 Cent's last project and so on and so forth. My opinion isn't as minute as it seems though. There are plenty of others like me. Plenty of people who name old cd's when asked the question, "What you listening to these days?" Countless people who listen to their favorite artists brand new cd and genuinely don't feel it. These people will never utter those words though. Instead they'll go on supporting average music from above average artists, and giving passing grades based on nothing but popularity.

we have rihanna whos mediocore at best. kayne using that voice machine and its just bogus. i hate turning on the radio and hear nothing but wackness. when pple feed into artist like rihana who droped 3,000 singles - it doesnt give REAl artist to shine through. its crazy when you have a legend like janet who couldnt sell a album if she tried /but we have rihana hollering & gasping on stage & her single chrats in the top 10, that this ish i dont get
