Damn You Kanye:

I am a HUGE Kanye West fan. Since the College Dropout album, he has been an evolving talent and innovative artist. He is a superstar in every sense of the word. However, I curse the day that he wore these damn shutter sunglasses. As usual, doing one of those things that only Kanye should do, he ended up setting off a wave of people trying to imitate. Certain styles however, SHOULD NOT be jocked.

Just to make a mockery of those who bite him, he even sold a disposable paper version of the glasses during the Glow in the Dark Tour and people spent money on them. THEY WERE PAPER!! It's been months since Kanye introduced these silly shades, yet people are still wearing them. I can't tell people what to wear, but I can say that if you see someone with these glasses on, you have the right to snatch them, throw them to the ground and drop a stone on them. Until then, I blame Kanye for setting fashion back 31 years.

Editors Note: I also feel very strongly about white rimmed sunglasses on guys, but that's a whole different post

Legend of the Fall

Paul Newman
(January 26, 1925-September 26, 2008)

Legendary actor, director and activist, Paul Newman passed yesterday after a long battle with cancer. Known as much for his acting ability as he was for his charitable contributions (his Newman's Own food brand donates all profits to charities), the former Yale student was widely considered one of the best method actors ever. In addition to being an Academy Award and Emmy winning actor, Newman was also a former national champion race car driver.

He was 83 years old.

Wayne's World

Every successful musician these days has more than one hustle. Some get into acting, some start their own clothing line and some...work for ESPN??? Lil Wayne, a self professed sports junkie, officially writes a sports blog for ESPN The Magazine. The magazine was talking to him about his music being played during baseball games, and he offered to write for them.

Check out Wayne's blog and make sure you check back for weekly updates.

Ciara is a Liar...

So there is a lot of controversy about Ciara's recent VIBE cover shoot. She claims that she wasn't nude for the shoot and VIBE claims that she was in fact naked.Honestly, I think Ciara heard the streets callin her a hoe for posing like a BlackTail centerfold model and now wants to make it seem like she didn't drop her panties for VIBE. She sat down with MTV news to discuss the situation.

Yet, there is previous video of her discussing the shoot and saying that photos were supposed to appear nude.

At the end of the day, whether you had on some panties, pasties, or nothing at all - You put yourself out there, Ciara. Don't blame VIBE that it didn't work out the way that you wanted it to. Stay out the kitchen if you can't take the heat, homie.

Slick McCain

Whoever told Johnny Boy to suspend his campaign until the $700 billion bailout proposal is settled, should be fired EARLY! What type of leader is that? You don't run from a debate with this kind of issue on the table. If anything, this gives you reason to debate! Give your position on the proposal, and discuss how it can help or hinder the nation.

I'm not suggesting he's scared to debate with Senator Obama, but the financial crisis is the kind of hot button issue that makes debates relevant. He says he wants to put politics to the side and focus on the priorities of this country. That's all well and good, but I am pretty sure that John McCain is not going to walk up to Capitol Hill and say, "fellas, stop arguing about this money, I got it." The entire federal government is trying to figure out how to solve this problem, yet Johnny Boy thinks that if he debates with Barack tomorrow, the country will go down in flames.

If John McCain doesn't have the ability to multitask, do we really want him running the country. Yall know who to vote for.

Introducing: T-Mobile G1

T-mobile just got a little more pop and Apple just got a little tight! The new T-Mobile G1 is on the way and it's looking pretty snazzy. It is the first phone to be powered by Google and it one-ups the iPhone by featuring both, touch-screen and QWERTY keyboard functionality. It also has the popular Google Maps Street View and GPS features...the same ones you get on your computer.

At $179.99 this is looking like the first real competition for the iPhone. To learn more about the phone and how to pre-order, click here.

"I am a PC" - Yeahhhh Right, Pharrell!

Check out Pharrell promoting Microsoft in this new PC ad campaign. Unfortunately, there are pics on the net that showcase that Pharrell is not a PC. He actually is an Apple (Pharrell pictured below with a custom gold iPhone). I am not hating on Pharrell getting a check, but this just makes Microsoft look stupid.

Random Question of the Day:

With all the excitement surrounding Barack Obama's stunning presidential campaign run, one question is being ignored: What if he doesn't win?

For the sake of this country I am definitely hoping for the democratic victory, but anyone who voted in the 2004 election knows that democratic victory is not guaranteed despite how much it may seem necessary. I know it's a scary thing to think about, but it's also a very realistic possibility. So again I pose the question, if Barack Obama does not win, then what?

I'm Not a Fan:

When I was at Target this morning, a young lady made me realize something; It's time to do away with the Weave Ponytail. You can't go from barely being able to put a rubber band around your hair, to having hair flowing down the center of your back. What's worse is that the real hair gets all matted down with gel and grease and it's just not that neat after day one. Do away with the Weave Ponytail and watch the quality of your life improve.

Jada's Back!

It's been a while since Jada Pinkett Smith was on television. She's come a long way since A Different World and she's ready to show you. The lovely actress has just signed on the play the female lead in a TNT drama called, "Time Heals." In addition to starring on the show, she will also serve as one of the executive producers.

In an era when black actresses aren't getting the worlds greatest roles, it's nice to see one get a shot at something different. With shows like The Closer and Saving Grace both boasting female leads, TNT should be a nice fit for Jada's new drama.

There is no word yet on when the pilot episode will premier. To read more click here.

Maury Knows

I was listening to the Tom Joyner Morning Show and he had talkshow host, Maury Povich on the phone. Maury was giving justification to his show's infatuation with paternity tests, when he made an interesting statement. He said that 11% of children in America are being raised by the wrong father. Meaning the guy who thinks he's their dad, actually isn't.

Ladies if you're having babies, make sure the right guy is helping you raise the kid. Don't be trifling, or you'll end up on the Maury Show!

Wall Street in Crisis - What's Next?

Unless you have been under a rock this week, you have heard about the terrible times that are hitting the financial industry with the $85 Billion dollar Goverment bail out of AIG and the record lows on the Dow Jones. I am not the most stock market-literate person out there, but when the Dow drops 300 points overnight - I am concerned.

Well, today I ran across some interesting ideas from Columbia University professor Joseph E. Stiglitz. Stiglitz was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2001, and he has some recommendations on regulations our government needs to inact. With this being a Presidential election year, we all need to take the time to understand the major issues and have relevent research to back our thought processes. Take a look at Stiglitz recommendations below and make sure to listen close to our Presidential nominees to see if they are speaking to the issues and how to rectify the problems.

Excerpt taken from Cnn.com:

1. We need first to correct incentives for executives, reducing the scope for conflicts of interest and improving shareholder information about dilution in share value as a result of stock options. We should mitigate the incentives for excessive risk-taking and the short-term focus that has so long prevailed, for instance, by requiring bonuses to be paid on the basis of, say, five-year returns, rather than annual returns.

2. Secondly, we need to create a financial product safety commission, to make sure that products bought and sold by banks, pension funds, etc. are safe for "human consumption." Consenting adults should be given great freedom to do whatever they want, but that does not mean they should gamble with other people's money. Some may worry that this may stifle innovation. But that may be a good thing considering the kind of innovation we had -- attempting to subvert accounting and regulations. What we need is more innovation addressing the needs of ordinary Americans, so they can stay in their homes when economic conditions change.

3. We need to create a financial systems stability commission to take an overview of the entire financial system, recognizing the interrelations among the various parts, and to prevent the excessive systemic leveraging that we have just experienced.

4. We need to impose other regulations to improve the safety and soundness of our financial system, such as "speed bumps" to limit borrowing. Historically, rapid expansion of lending has been responsible for a large fraction of crises and this crisis is no exception.

5. We need better consumer protection laws, including laws that prevent predatory lending.

6. We need better competition laws. The financial institutions have been able to prey on consumers through credit cards partly because of the absence of competition. But even more importantly, we should not be in situations where a firm is "too big to fail." If it is that big, it should be broken up.

And in closing... Obama 08!!!! We Need Change!!!!

Apple Continues To Shake Things Up

Steve Jobs unvieled the newest offerings from Apple at an invitation only event in San Francisco earlier today.

There were small upgrades to the iPod Classic (it now comes in a standard 120 GB) and the iPod Touch (now it comes in three different size capabilities).

The New iPod Nano is here. With a 2-inch full color display and at only .24 inches thick, this is the smallest Nano yet.

iTunes 8 was introduced with several new upgrades including the new Genius application, which groups songs by the way that they sound and the Shake 2 Shuffle application, which plays a random song when you shake the iPod in the air.

Check out Fortune Magazines Big Tech Blog to read up on all the Apple happenings.
