Newsflash: People in Iraq Don't Like George Bush

As he shook hands with the Prime Minister of Iraq, George Bush had to duck not one, but two shoes being thrown directly at his head by an Iraqi journalist. As he threw the shoes, the journalist yelled out, "This is a farewell kiss you dog!"

LMAO!

Old School Sundays: Marvin Gaye

Check out this video of Marvin Gaye on the track A Funky Space Reincarnation (1978). This track is being used a lot lately so I thought we should give the original version some shine. Listen for the record being played in the new Dior J'adore commercials and being sampled on Until, on Musiq's OnMyRadio LP.

All Eyes On Me:

When President elect Obama takes the stage on Jan. 20, most people will be watching to witness yet another monumental moment in his historical journey toward the presidency. However, some people will be less concerned with the inauguration than others. These people will be listening closely, not to Barack's plans for fundamental change in America, but to what name he uses when he's sworn in.

There are a lot of folks making issues out of Barack using his middle name during the inauguration proceedings. Some people feel like him using his proper name, Barack Hussein Obama will be the death of America as we know it. Others feel like because it wasn't used during his campaign toward the white house, it shouldn't be used now that he's in.

In my opinion this is one of those, "who gives a damn," kind of situations. This man has nothing to apologize for at all. His patriotism has been questioned, his foreign and native alliances have been questioned, his citizenship has been questioned, and now his middle name? To anyone still in shock that the president is a black man from Hawaii who has a muslim name, get over it. The people have spoken, and whoever is still living in doubt has until Jan. 20, 2009 to come to terms with the fact that Barack Hussein Obama is your next president no matter how many times you question it.

Album Review: Musiq - OnMyRadio

Soul crooner Musiq Soulchild returns to the music landscape with his fifth studio album, OnMyRadio. Coming off of his incredible Luvanmusiq album, expectations were very high for the new release. Preceded by the lead single, Radio, Musiq threw hardcore fans for a loop as he shed his signature neo-soul style for a bass heavy Atlanta club sound. The second single from the project features Mary J. Blige on the slow jam duet, If You Leave. Despite a great performance from Musiq, Mary J. really made the track drag and overall wasn't the best fit for the song. Alicia Keys would have been a more ideal match for Musiq vocally. Needless to say, despite a rocky start with singles, I still wanted to see what Musiq would bring to the table on this new project.

Unfortunately, Musiq has traded in his signature mellow sound for a much more uptempo fare that works well on tracks such as Backagain, but struggles on Moneyright. Classic Musiq can be found on the standout joint s Loveofmylife and Sobeautiful. The album as a whole has a cohesive sound but it is clear that something is missing from this record. With the shortest playtime and least amount of tracks out of any of his albums, I am led to think that Musiq may have been rushing to put out a project before year's end rather than truly taking his time to create another well formatted opus. I would say if you are a Musiq fan, you will still want to add this project to your collection, but it may not be at the top of your list in his catalogue of work.

Grade: B
Best Joints: Loveofmylife, Sobeautiful, Someone, Until

TV One premiered their new series UNSUNG this past week. Serving as a African American "Behind The Music", UNSUNG tells the stories of incredible and iconic music stars of the past.
I am watching the Debarge family episode tonight and it is really interesting to see how much this family went through to acheieve success, and how drugs and jealous brought them down. Tomorrow (12/4) will feature R&B songstress Phylliss Hyman. If you aren't up on her, check out her Wiki page here. UNSUNG airs at 10 p.m. on TV One.

I Hate Dumb Muthaf****'s: O.J.

Today CNN reports that former football great, O.J. Simpson is facing between a minimum of 6 years in federal prison or a maximum life sentence. His legal team is busy trying to appeal the judgement before his sentencing and all I can think is "You Dumb Muthaf**** !!!" Your life was spared when you got off in one of the most historic murder trials in the record books and instead of getting your life together and focusing on your kids, You decide to get into another domestic instance. You got off once but you won't get off again, O.J. It is sad to see a man in his 60's facing the potential of life in prison, but at the end of the day, maybe that is where he deserves to be.

Which Trend Was Worse: Bad Sneaker Edition

Failed Politics

"For me and my family and campaign team and all of you this is a sad moment"

Strong and disappointing words from Dem. Jim Martin as he conceded his run in the Georgia U.S. Senate runoff yesterday. What's more telling to me, is the underwhelming amount of voters that showed up this time around, one month after the general election. Georgia had a 30% decrease in voter turnout for yesterday's runoff in comparison to last months inspired showing at the polls.

I'm upset not so much at the fact that Martin lost, but because the majority of democratic voters allowed political fatigue, and a lack of knowledge regarding the importance of the Georgia Senate seat, to deter them from getting back out and voting yesterday. On the surface local government may pale in comparison to national government, but it was equally as important that the same voters who worked so diligently for Barack Obama, got right back up and supported Jim Martin a second time around.

Early voting was available, and absentee voting was still an option just as it was during the general election, so why didn't more people show up? Yes, it might have been taxing to get back up and cast another ballot after the commitment so many people made going into last month's election, but I challenge someone to tell me they wouldn't have gone back out and cast a second vote for Barack Obama in a similar situation. Jim Martin stood for the same economic, and socio-economic improvements that President-elect Obama did when he ran for the Illinois Senate. It would have been a shame if Obama lost that senate race because a few voters didn't feel like going back to the polls.

World AIDS Day: Eye-Opener

With today being World AIDS Day, I saw coverage on getting tested all over the T.V. with numerous specials on BET & MTV. While doing my daily once-over of the web's top stories, I ran across some information about Kelly Rowland's work with the AIDS virus. Kelly was selected as the youth ambassador for the MTV Staying Alive organization and as a part of her ambassadorship she traveled to South Africa and Tanzania this past summer to spread awareness about this disease and its damaging affects on the community, domestically and abroad. The footage of Kelly's travels was definitely eye-opening and truly brought in to perspective that the AIDS issue is a global one that needs more attention from all of us. Check out the documentary of Kelly's travels in Africa by clicking here.
