Recession Hits the Newstand: VIBE cuts Back

One of Hip-Hop's highest held entities is being forced to tighten their ropes. The Quincy Jones founded periodical, VIBE Magazine is not only being forced to cut their annual output from 12 down to 10 issues, but it is also reducing their work schedule to a four day work week. The magazine had already experienced hardships earlier this year when they reduced their rate base to 800,000 from 850,000, but along with the issue cutback and work week reduction, the company has reduced the circulation rate base from 600,000 from 800,000 as of the June/July issue.

It looks like it is officially a wrap for the magazine industry. Blogs are the new entertainment medium and unfortunately, it seems that the consumer has spoken by keeping their subscription dollars in their wallet. I hope VIBE really intensifies thier web offerings.
