"My Homepage is Black": Blackbird

I just learned of a new web platform that is taking the Black online experience to the next level. Get familiar with Blackbird (www.blackbirdbrowser.com). This web application serves as resource to connect with African-American focused News, Search Engines, Blogs & Lifestyle Websites, Business Associations, Non-Profits and Universities through your own homepage.

Released in December 2008, Blackbird offers culture relevant features include the recently launched Grapevine feature, which allows users to submit online content to the greater community and open up that content for discussion. Blackbird also features an up-to-the-minute news ticker, as well as the Blackbird Blog. Target Market News details "It's been a whirlwind since Blackbird was released to the general public, with more than 100,000 people downloading the application in only two and a half months," said Ed Young, CEO and Co-Founder of Blackbird. "Our community is rapidly expanding, and therefore we will continue to develop relevant resources and bring people together in a social media, Web 2.0 setting."

This sounds interesting. I may just download the application and give it a try.
