New Joint: Ciara Ft. Young Jeezy "Never Ever"

Not crazy about this song (AT ALL), but Ciara looks good as hell in this video and as always, she kills the dancing. Very Aaliyah-ish moves in this one.

"Damn, Why They Wanna To Stick Me for My Paper": Tyler Perry Edition

It's been reported that six different construction companies have filed liens on Tyler Perry, citing unpaid bills for services already rendered. The companies are claiming they are owed money on work done on Tyler Perry's home and his recently opened production studio here in Atlanta. Perry says the he refuses to pay because of undocumented charges and sloppy work, and that he's being targeted because of his celebrity.

The companies are filing charges around $200,000.

One of the fine black actors of our time has been properly awarded for his efforts. Congratulations to James Earl Jones on his Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award. It's fitting that in one of his most notable films, The Man, Jones played the first black U.S. President. And of course, he played Mufasa in the Lion King...classic!

Kelly Holds Her Own Destiny: Drops Beyonce's Pops

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 28, 2009

Joint statement from Mathew Knowles and Kelly Rowland on their amicable professional split:

"After a very positive meeting between Kelly Rowland and myself, we have amicably agreed to end our professional relationship. My company, Music World, will continue to manage Destiny's Child as a group. As an artist Kelly has incredible talent and I only wish her the best. We will always be family first and foremost, and as a dad I only have love for Kelly." ----Mathew Knowles

"Mathew Knowles has been a positive influence in my career. I have had great success under his guidance — both as a member of Destiny’s Child and with my solo projects. Although we have decided to part ways professionally, the Knowles family and the entire Music World Entertainment team will always be my family." ---Kelly Rowland

--I gotta say, this was long overdue. Kelly is blowing up overseas and she should have someone managing her who is as focused on her career as Matthew Knowles is on Beyonce's.

Kids Do The Damn Thing: Noah McCullough & Elijah Johnson

I ran across a couple stories over the past few days about some incredible young people. One such youngster is Noah McCullough. Noah is a published author at the age of 13! His passion for the White House and all things related led him to write his first book on presedential trivia and his most recent offering focuses on the first kids. Noah's latest, First Kids: The True Stories of All the Presidents’ Children, explores the lives of Presidential children and showcases their triumphs and struggles. Noah plans to run for President himself, but not until 2032 ( when he turns 37). Check out Noah's book on Amazon.

Also in the news is Detroit native, Elijah Johnson. Elijah is a 10 year student at Friends School in Detroit, who has always been active in school plays and in his church choir. Well, all that focus on the arts has paid off because Elijah has just been cast as Simba in the award winning stage adaptation of Disney's "The Lion King." After being chosen form nearly 600 other young actors, Elijah will travel this week to his new home of Las Vegas, NV to prepare for his role as Simba for an engagement of 6 months. Johnson will begin performing nightly at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in May. Get your tickets at Ticketmaster.

Vh1 Doesn't Like Black People

My favorite channel for finding coonery and step & fetch t.v. is back with what should be a treat! Terrell Owens is the latest recipient to get his own reality show on the Embarassing Black Reality Show Network. Vh1 announced today that the Cowboy's receiver will get a show that follows him during the offseason and will help him re-examine his personal life.

Ray-J, New York, Fonzworth Bentley, Monique, Jamie Foxx, Flavor Flav, Real Chance at Love, and now T.O. have all allowed themselves to be exploited by Vh1. If you didn't know, I'm still on strike against Viacom owned television stations until further notice. If they keep coming up with these kinds of shows, I might as well get my cable cut off.

Don't Put Away That Old A** TV Yet

MSNBC reports that the Senate voted today to postpone the transition from analog to digital television until June 12. Congressional Democrats really lobbied for a delay on the change because they felt like most of the 6.5 million viewers with analog TV's wouldn't be ready by Feb. 17.

But if you still have a television with the bunny ears or an antenna, you will need to get a digital converter box, or a massive upgrade in your entertainment system.

Or does Beyonce look like she's passing in this video for her single "Halo?"

I understand it was a marketing scheme to have all the songs from the I Am side of the album be for pop (non-urban) radio, and have the Sasha Fierce side be for the hood chicks, but I didn't think they needed to change her complexion in the respective videos.

I Was Afraid of This...

When Jay-Z and Jeezy performed the "My President is Black" remix at a D.C. club on Tuesday, somebody recorded more than just the song on their camera phone. The clip shows both of them saying some not so nice things about former President Bush and you know Sly Fox News was the first to report.

Personally I get that free speech is available to everyone in America, but I definitely don't think that this was the best thing to do immediately following the inauguration. We (blacks) have to be conscious that society will measure us against the same standards they measure Barack against, and because of that, free speech comes with a price. If this were just Jeezy on this tape, a less known crossover artist, then this probably never reaches Fox News. However when Jay-Z, no longer just a rapper, but a legitimate businessman and mogul, gets involved in this kind of stuff the media will have a field day.

The bottom line is, as crazy as it sounds, Barack Obama will now be held accountable for black America. This just means we have to be more aware of our actions than ever before. Tuesday was our day to celebrate and witness an American history with a magnitude only we could fully identify with. We don't need to walk on pins and needles now that he's in office, but we do have to realize that his call for a united America was not meant to be divisive. Publicly, we're representing Barack Obama as much as he's representing us and I'm sure he wouldn't have gotten elected if he called George Bush a p*ssy and a b*tch.

What do you think? Is Fox News making a big deal out of the situation, or were Jay and Jeezy doing a little too much?

Obama Politics: Photography

With so many great events and coverage of our soon to be President Obama, I ran across two news bits that I found really interesting. The Obama administration has released the official portrait (seen to the left) that will be used for the President. The photo was taken by new White House photographer Pete Souza and is the first official Presidential portrait to be taken on a digital camera.

In addition, Shepard Fairey's incredibly famous Obama portrait (seen to the right) has received an ultimate honor by being included in the National Portrait Gallery. Fairey's work was emblazoned on t-shirts, posters and billboards across the U.S. in 2008. The art piece was installed in the Gallery Saturday.
