Random Question of the Day: I Don't Trust You Edition

Would you ever search through a boyfriend/girlfriends telephone, text messages, emails, sock drawer, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc., looking for information that they might be creeping?

Bonus: If you find something, would you confront them, knowing that you snuck into their private stuff in the first place, or would you use it as ammo during a future argument?

Shout Out: Steve Harvey Partners with State Farm

Steve Harvey's brand keeps growing, and now corporations are starting to realize that his endorsements, just like Oprah's, are as good as gold. State Farm has signed the legendary comedian to do a series of digital comedy shorts on a range of topics of interest to car and home insurance consumers. The first short, which features an animated version of Harvey going through a stand-up bit about his son’s request for a brand new Escalade, premiered at Harveyknowsbest.com to coincide with National Teen Driver Safety Week, which runs this week.

Visitors to the site get a personal touch by entering their name, which then appears in animated marquee lights. They can also enter their ZIP code and find a State Farm agent in the area.

State Farm has already partnered the 50 Million Pound Challenge with the Steve Harvey Morning Show, but the overwhelming results that he's had over that campaign led to this current project. Harvey will run 48 digital shorts over the next year for the insurance company.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You...You're Far Too Kind

President Barack Obama woke up this morning to a "humbling" phone call. He found out he had just won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. The award recognizes his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.

There are of course the usual naysayers who are confused as to how a president whose term began less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline could win the award. There are also people mad that George 'Dubya Bush didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize for his unilateral military action in the wake of September 11. To them, me and the president say PEACE out!

President Obama is the third sitting U.S. president to win the award: President Theodore Roosevelt won in 1906 and President Woodrow Wilson was awarded the prize in 1919. Former President Jimmy Carter also won in 2002, during then President George Bush's first term.

And This Is Important Why...?

Friday morning, an unmanned spacecraft will crash into the moon. Why is this important? I really don't have an answer for it. NASA expects "plumes of moon dust — perhaps full of ice — (to soar) 6.2 miles high above the moon's Cabeus crater." That's it, they're attacking the moon to see if any water or ice is under the moons surface. That gets a big WHO GIVES A DAMN from me.

My biggest issue with this is the fact that it costs $79 million to build a spacecraft that we're about to destroy on purpose...and they say AIG, Chrysler, General Motors and Ford wasted money.

Watch the video if you actually want to see what NASA expects to gain from this space invasion.

Blackface in 2009???

Check out this disturbing clip from an Australian variety show. Did they really think this was acceptable or even remotely funny? Props to Harry Connick Jr. for speaking out against the racist display. Is this 2009 or 1909?

This Has To Be A Parole Violation...

A lot of folks get out of jail and make mistakes when they should be living on the straight and narrow. This typically comes from hanging with the wrong crowd of people. Well Mike Vick is no exception. He's hanging with folks who haven't had the best interest of black people in mind for years.

In an effort to get people to know him "as an individual," Eagle's quarterback Mike Vick will star in an eight-part documentary set to air on BET in 2010. The network says that it will not be a typical reality show, but will be more of a docu-series on Vick's life since he's been out of prison.

I hope for his sake, BET doesn't do what BET does. Vick does not need anybody cooning up his life right now, and when BET coons, nobody is strong enough to withstand it...Not Tavis, not Donnie, not Rachael, Not Free/A.J., not even Michael Jackson Tributes. Hopefully this show does improve his image, but if it heads in the direction of Frankie & Neffe, I'm gonna go join the PETA movement.

Goodbye BET J... Hello Centric

The battle for upwardly mobile, educated African-American television viewers has begun. BET has launched a new channel, Centric, that will replace their former alternative TV brand, BET J. Centric is described as a "24-hour entertainment network featuring the artists, music, series, movies and reality programming reflecting the lifestyle and sophistication of today’s African-American and multi-cultural adult". In essence, Centric will serve as a viable competitor for the market share that TV One has scooped up.

Centric will offer original programming, syndicated programming (Run's House is on right now, lol) and first run specials, including the 2009 Soul Train Awards. I think this channel should be a good look for the BET brand, but I have to say I would have liked to seen a major promotional push for the new media vehicle. I have been inundated with commercials for The Monique Show premiere (no shade) and yet not one promoting a new conscious and sophisticated multimedia option. I guess they figured the target demographic wasn't watching anyway. I will be checking out Centric and let you know what I think. Centric is 275 on Comcast Cable.

Wii Wants To Get In Your Pockets

In advance of the upcoming gift-giving season, Nintendo has announced a price drop for their popular Wii game console. The Wii, which has found popularity among a wide cross-sectional demographic, will start selling for $199 this week. I think this price drop was mainly prompted by the introduction of the more affordable PS3 Slim that dropped earlier in September. Either way, it makes me want to go cop a Wii as an early Christmas gift!
