The Crack Report: Chilly-O Holiday Release

Chilly-O, one of the most prominent designers on the Atlanta landscape, introduces his holiday release, The 64oz Club Collection v.2. Inspired by minimalism and Japanese culture, Chilly-O takes a step away from his color rich collections of the past year and offers a new line that he likens more similar to his own personal style. I say it is dope. Cop your own piece over at www.chillyo.com

Allen Iverson Announces Retirement

Sports columnist and national radio host, Stephen A. Smith, has reported that Allen Iverson has decided to retire from the NBA. Iverson was recently released from a very short-lived contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, and is coming off of a controversial 2008-2009 season with the Detroit Pistons. However, despite his recent mishaps, Iverson is one of the best basketball players in NBA history and arguably the best small guard to ever play the game.

In addition to his contributions on the basketball court, A.I. changed the culture of the NBA to what it is today. From the tattoos, to the cornrows, Iverson brought a persona to the league that it could not ignore. Iverson wasn't the first to do these things, but he was the first MVP and perinnial All-Star to separate himself from the old school clean cut look of past NBA players.

Iverson is one of the toughest players, and best scorers to touch a basketball. His affect on urban culture is unparalleled. He's the only sports player I can think of who's shoe sales could even stand next to Michael Jordan. It's a sad day in basketball, but Allen Iverson's career was as potent as his legendary crossover. Regardless of how his career is ending, Allen Iverson is a cultural and basketball icon if there ever was one.

This Is Why I Hate The Weave Ponytail...

Take a look at Ciara. She's cute, she can dance, her teeth are straight. On paper she sounds like a winner. But she lost it the second she went to get her hair done. Why? Because she got had her beautician attach my arch hair nemesis to her head: The Weave Ponytail!!!!

I have a hate-hate relationship with this hairstyle, mainly because of it's unbelievability. You didn't come to my crib on Monday with your hair stretching out for dear life trying to reach your ear lobe, but then come back on Friday with your hair just above your plumbers crack. It just doesn't add up. Ladies if you went out with a guy who was 5'0" tall on the first date and 5'11" on the second, you would think, "This clown think he fooling me with them extra long legs he got on, knowing them aint his legs." Well dammit, the weave ponytail is no different.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with weave as long as it's done right. But the whole point of it is to extend what's already there, not to add a few feet of fantasy hair. I refuse to wake up next to that panther tail!!

And don't even get me started on the greasy front root hair that's stretching your eyelids back toward the weave ponytail. That's a whole different entry...

Wanna Buy A Stadium?

Well you missed your chance to buy the Pontiac Silverdome, but for what it pricetag was, you had a shot. The old Detroit Lions stadium sold for a whopping $583,000. That's right, for less than some 2 bedroom homes, you could have bought the Silverdome.

The building was built for $55million and was supposed to sell a year ago for $20m. Instead, the building was sold to a Canadian company that plans to bring a soccer league to the stadium.

I don't care what stocks indicate...when a stadium sells for $500k, the recession aint over.

Your Vote Only Counts When You Cast It

I guess I'd be surprised if I didn't see this coming over a year ago. Young voters have come a long way, but we still haven't learned that change takes commitment. President Obama's election became historic, not just based on his race, but based on the millions of young voters, and first time voters who came out to the polls. His campaign started what looked like a positive trend of people being more active in politics. However, the recent no-show for state and local elections showed that people must think politics end with Obama.

In states across the country, millions of voters who cast ballots in the 2008 presidential election were missing. This absence helped Republican's win some crucial governor's races in states like Virginia and New Jersey. Here in Atlanta, not even 25% of the registered voters showed up for the city's most important mayoral election in years.

The problem with most of the young and first time voters not showing up to the polls, is that most of them are minorities, and that vote is as important in today's politics as they were a year ago; maybe even more so. Barack Obama getting elected to the presidency was not the end all be all of American politics. The state and local elections shape this country just as much as national government does. As we disregard these elections, we risk losing the change that we all sought out when we voted for President Obama.

Empire State of Mind...

Congratulations to the New York Yankees on their 27th World Series Championship!!!! After closing down old Yankee Stadium in 2008, and A-Rod's steroid woes, it looked like it could be a long year for the Bronx Bombers, but the boys showed up and showed out, winning the series against the former world champion Phillies in 6 games.

Somewhere Spike Lee is wearing his special edition Yankee cap.
